Merry Christmas Eve! So I'm a few hours away from hosting our family Christmas, and while scrubbing all the things I usually don't scrub I realized I never posted about my Christmas bedroom decor. Fail, Ashley....fail. Anyway, let's get right to it, because this Christmas enchilada soup isn't going to make itself.
So if you have been around for a while then you have probably noticed I have never been into seasonal decorating. You would think I would love it, since....you know....I've been …

Master Bedroom Tweaks + Leather Headboard Awesomeness
*A big thank you to Article for sponsoring this post! All opinions are 100% my own.
Our master bedroom is one of the first rooms we choose to complete in this house. Even though nearly every other room in our house is far from finished, I keep working on and tweaking the master bedroom. I love our bedroom, I think it's freaking beautiful and it's truly a retreat for my husband and at the end of a long day. Here are a few photos of it in progress over the last few years...
Late 2016, when we …

DIY Electric Fireplace
So I know we said the bedroom was finished, but that was a lie. We still needed to add wood flooring and a fireplace, but neither one was going to happen for a few years (since my four sons are now eating our house projects budget. Literally eating it...they never stop eating. I'm screwed when they're teenagers.)
Adam and I found a way to add a fireplace and not break the bank though, and now this exists in our bedroom...
I'm so glad we didn't wait, because having a fireplace in …

How to Build a TV Frame
Today I have a very simple and practical project for you. It's something that you 100% can do yourself....even if you are new to DIY and your tool collection is nearly nonexistent.
Why would you want to frame your TV? Well because of this...
This giant gap full of cords isn't exactly the prettiest sight, and I'm going to assume that if you have a flatscreen TV hung on the wall then you have the same issue. Fortunately there is a simple solution, and it only requires is a few …

Adam and I have been chipping away at the bedroom for the last couple of years, and slowly but surely it went from a mostly empty mishmash of random items to a relaxing retreat where we can escape at the end of the day. It's amazing.
So just to tide you over before we get to the guts of the blog post, here are a few pictures …

Bed Shopping on a Budget
I've been bed shopping lately. "Lately" being a relative term, because it feels like much, much longer than that. It started off innocently enough, with Adam and I on our floor mattress, dreaming about what bed would be the one to finally lift us up off the concrete. Our bedroom is rustic and fairly masculine, and it has all the traditional elements you need for a great room - wood, stone, metal, white, some color, and plants. The only thing it was missing was leather. A leather bed would be …

Master Bedroom Reading Nook
It's been a quiet two weeks around here, but I have a good excuse...Adam and I have been in Costa Rica! With no kids! And other adults! It was an amazing trip and just the break we needed. I'll write up a post about it when I'm finished with this bedroom makeover (so two weeks...I have a deadline) and share all the details.
Speaking of the bedroom makeover, we've finished a small section of it...the reading nook!
I love it so much, I just sit in bed at night and smile at it until I …

A Bedroom Ceiling (Un) Update
A few weeks ago I blogged about our wooden bedroom ceiling, and I finished that post by saying I was pretty sure I was going to stain it.
My issue with the ceiling was that it looked very fresh and new, not rustic and old like I had hoped. Adding to that feel was the fact that the wooden window headers are old and gray, and the two just didn't look like they belonged in the same room.
Staining it seemed like the best solution. Nothing too dramatic, just something to add age. After …

Vaulted Wood Ceiling (from cedar fence pickets)
In the process of building our house, Adam and I messed up. We knew that we only wanted the builder to build the "shell" of the house and leave the rest for us to DIY, but what we didn't realize (no one along the way did... I'm guessing people don't finance half-built houses very often) is that in order to close on a construction loan, the house has to be 100% finished. This led to a giant, stressful, drawn-out mess when we tried to convert the construction loan to a mortgage. Our solution was …

State of the House, 2017 – Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Loft
Alright, time for the final part of the 2017 house tour! I’ve already posted about the exterior, and the main living areas, so keep reading to see the bedrooms, bathrooms and the loft.
Let’s start with the loft...
There it is, truth...I bet you weren’t expecting to see a giant mess right off the bat were you?
The loft is the only thing upstairs (besides the attic) and it serves as the kids playroom. It’s perfect, because every single toy the kids own is up there and I can’t see any …

Master Bedroom Progress and the Nicest Draperies I’ve Ever Owned
Progress has been happening in the master bedroom! We haven’t done any big projects (there still isn't a ceiling or a floor) it’s mostly just been me shopping and dreaming, and its been fun. Last month I posted the plans for the room and showed you these before pictures -
This is the design mock-up I came up with (it’s not great, but you get the picture) -
And here are some of the updates I made -
There is still plenty to do, but it is certainly a huge improvement. The …

Plans for the Master Bedroom
In the last house I never finished our master bedroom, the entire time we lived there it was an unfinished catch-all for everything in the house that didn't have a place. We basically slept in a storage unit. Adam and I would crawl into bed night after a long day, and instead of feeling relaxed we would just look around and think “Ugh...there is so much stuff we didn't get done today” (even if we had each rocked the socks off our to-do list).
I know I'm not alone in this. I know the master …

Interior Limestone
When designing and planning this house Adam and I knew we wanted a lot of rustic features inside our home. Metal ceilings, antique beams, shiplap siding, brick flooring, rock walls, and rustic wood ceilings and floors were all things we wanted to incorporate in one way or another. We particularity wanted an entire rock wall on one of the walls in the main living space. After finalizing our blueprints we were like “We’re going to put the rock wall HERE. Okay, no... here? Well, that won’t …

10 Ways to Decorate Above your Bed
Lately I've been spending time mindlessly scrolling through pinterest and Houzz (what else can you really do when breastfeeding at 3am?), gathering ideas for something to hang above the bed in our master bedroom. There are lots of great options out there, so I thought I'd put together a post showcasing a few of them.
1. Art
This one is pretty obvious, and there are so many different ways to display above your bed. You can do anything from a single big piece to an entire …

Planked Walls and Upholstered Headboards (master bedroom progress)
Well, the master bedroom is slowly coming along, looking better and better each month! I'm trying to work on it a little at a time and not stress, since I realize we may never fully finish it before we sell our house. I'm okay with that, and in the meantime I'm really enjoying having a master bedroom that doesn't make me cringe.
Anyway, this months challenge for my BHG sponsored post was "furniture". So a few weeks ago I was sitting in bed, perusing walmart.com, looking through all the BHG …

“This is my beloved and this is my friend” Pallet Sign
Today I have a simple tutorial for y'all, the pallet sign that was in my master bedroom makeover last week.
First thing you will need is a pallet, obviously. I know pallet projects have been all the rage lately, but I haven't ever really used them. Then one day Adam came across a stack of them behind his work and came home with these three.
He called them "the most gorgeous pallets I've ever seen", since they were made from wood like red oak and pecan (or some equally nice …

Quick and Easy Master Bedroom Makeover
Many of you know that I'm part of the Better Homes and Gardens Live Better Network, and every other month I am challenged to use BHG products in a different way. Well this last month has been pretty busy for us, and the last thing on my mind was blog deadlines. So a few weeks ago (when I was about a week overdue with baby #3) I finally remembered to look up the next challenge theme and deadline. The theme? Bedroom makeover, due in less than a month. Not gonna lie, I kinda had an "oh crap" moment …

Bed Swapping, Hopping, and General Chaos and Destruction
It all started when we went on a cruise last October.
Adam and I have always slept on a queen mattress, I've never felt like we needed anything else. I've always thought a bigger mattresses was a waste of space, or for couples that don't like each other as much as Adam and I do. We often fall asleep cuddled up, and more room would just be out there, empty. But lets face the facts here... Adam snores. He snores like a freight train in a tornado during a thunderstorm. He also does this thing that …

DIY Chalk Paint Fail & The Bed That Almost Killed Me
So unless you've been living under a rock, you know that chalk paint is all the rage here in crafty blogland. As a member of crafty blogland, I felt as if I was my duty to give chalk paint a whirl. Annie Sloan makes the stuff everyone raves about, so I went online to order some....that's when I saw that it is crazy expensive. Like over $40 a quart expensive. Now I might have ponied up and paid it if I wasn't going to catch a ton of flack about it from the hubs, who already thinks my paint …
