April Ramblings

May has been a bit intense so far and I haven’t really touched my computer. You know that feeling when you are so crazy tired that you are basically a worthless lump of human flesh? Then you crawl into bed and it is the best thing EVER? Like comfy bed heaven on earth, even if your sheets haven’t been washed recently and your bed isn’t even close to being made. That was us last night, as soon as our heads hit the pillow Adam and I both comfort moaned and started to talk about how nice the bed felt, but fell asleep before we finished.

The kids are a little worn out too…

But that’s May…lets talk about April.

Both my boys had doctors visits this month, Elijah had his three year and Levi had his 18  month. Levi is in the 25% for height and the 25% for weight, so he is super proportional.  At least that’s what they say, although even on good days I think he looks about 14 months pregnant. He went from the 50% for weight when he was born down to the 5% at his 15 month check-up, so it’s good that he fattened up a bit. If he hadn’t we would be in trouble, cause he eats nonstop and in huge quantities. Elijah is my little guy, he is at 13% for height and 2% for weight. I’m just excited he is finally ON the chart for weight. We also found that he is slightly anemic…which isn’t surprising, since he survives off of air has seems to hate food. Thankfully he has been eating a little more this month, he’s even stated eating some meat, beans and, get this… broccoli. It’s a miracle! These are all iron rich foods too, so I think we’ll be alright.

Levi continues to talk more and more, I can now ask him questions and he will answer with yes or no…. or “NO WAY”, when is really against something. I have no idea where he picked that up, I don’t say no way.  At least I don’t think I do, but now I’m not so sure. But he says “please” and “thank you” and pretty much everything else, and we’re working on “yes ma’am” and “NO WAY…ma’am”.

Elijah has spent the month talking my ear off. I literally don’t know how he even has time to breathe he talks so much…it really starts to wear on me by about 9 am each day. But he is hilarious, I’ll give him that. He picks up on everything we say and I can see how he is becoming “our child”. We joke around and pick on each other a lot, and he will say something totally silly and then say “Oh moooooom, I just kidding” in a sing-songy voice (while giggling). Or he will tell us that he is going to “put a whoopin on you” …which isn’t what it sounds like, that is what Adam tells him when they play wrestle. Then there was the other day I was asking Adam to take care of a mud dobber nest on our front porch that has particularly aggressive inhabitants, and Adam said he was afraid they would “rip his face off”. So guess what Elijah says now? He also refers to himself as “Nudge”, and I can’t seem to get him to call himself Elijah. When he sees other kids he goes up to them, puts his hand on his chest, and declares “I Nudge, I fwree (three, while holding up three fingers).”

Let’s see, what did us adults do this month? Adam is just finishing up his very last semester of college, he graduates next month. I’m super proud of him, he’s been going to school full time, working full time, and spending time with me and the kids AND keeping up with our projects. On top of all that it looks like he is going to graduate with a 4.0. He’s awesome and I love him…but more on that next month.

Me? Oh you know….kids, projects, cleaning, and basically just saving the world one mundane household chore at a time.

We did go to an Audio Adrenaline concert this month at a local church. For those of you that don’t know (shame on you!) Audio Adrenaline is a popular Christian band that has been around since the late 80’s. I remember Adam and I cruising around on our first date, holding hands and singing along to their Underdog CD at the top of our lungs. We were the cool kids, no doubt. We never really go to concerts, but it was fun. And we ran into some friends from church that I could dance like a nerd with (which Adam awkwardly tried to clap with the beat).  There were a few other bands there…Manic Drive, Seventh Day Slumber, Group1Crew, all of which they play on K-Love and Air 1 (christian radio stations.) I was disappointed to discover that Audio A has a new lead singer, but then they played “Supernatural” by DC Talk and I realized it was Kevin Max (DC Talk lead singer, and everyone loves DC Talk, right?) I even took a random, terrible iphone pic, just to prove that we do things…

We did other stuff… zoo trips, hiking trips, and we also did a day trip to visit some of our good army friends that were in Texas for a bit. We spent the day catching up, eating pizza, meeting each others kids, hanging out with horses, and shooting guns. Basically just a normal Texas day, haha. We failed to get any pictures together, but here are a few from the day…

(Levi was completely in love with the horses, and Elijah was terrified and wanted nothing to do with them.)

  1. Hey sweetie!

Thanks for the update, you know I love hearing about all of you, but especially you two little guys! I am glad everyone is well and growing and learning. Sorry you are getting your ears talked off everyday, I think my own Mom could tell you a thing or two about that. . . Lol (unfortunately it is STILL true, so just be prepared!).

I will be moving at the end of the month, but we will be lurking here as usual as soon as I get my wi-if up and running. Take good care, tell your congrats on graduating, that is a huge accomplishment for anyone, especially while working and raising a family, good for him! Give yourself and those two cute boys a hug and know you are all in my prayers.

  2. Love. Audio. Adrenaline. Was THRILLED when Kevin Max accepted the job. Here’s hoping for a TobyMac, AA, and Newsboys tour someday soon so we can have the DC Talk boys reunited.

  3. Hi Ashley, your boys are sooo adorable, congrats to Adam, looks like you have had a very busy and fun month! Jeremy Camp and Third Day are my favorites, but they are all wonderful to me, singing of a great subject, just makes you feel so good to praise him….doesn’t it! Well until next time…Hope you have another Great month!

  4. Such cute little urchins! I LOVE kids! So glad my little grandkids live across the street.
As for the weight thing, look at you, are you sure you’re on the chart? lol! Enjoyed your post as always!

  5. Ashley – you and your family are adorable. Congrats to Adam, that’s a huge accomplishment. I love your blog, you’re like the little sister (and nephews) I never had :)

  6. Oh my gosh, Levi is looking like a little kid now instead of a baby! It happens so fast, doesn’t it? It sounds like he’s talking a bit more than “my” triplets, who are about the same age.
I hear you about Elijah and the endless talking – my youngest was like that. It’s exhausting! But yeah, funny…
Congrats to Adam on graduating. He won’t know what to do with all his extra time now, haha! He’ll need a longer honey-do list. ;)
And can you please tell me, what the heck is a mud dabber?
    Cheers!
