Goose Creek Candle Review and Giveaway

I’ve always felt that lighting a candle is something your allowed to do AFTER your house is sparkly clean and dinner is in the oven. I feel that you should probably be sporting presentable clothing and your kids have to be wearing pants before its okay to light a candle. Lighting a candle in the midst of chaos is a serious breach of protocol. It’s like eating dessert first. It’s cheating. Of course this is all in my head and in truth you can be drowning in dishes, laundry, and diapers and still light a candle.  I tell you all that to say that when Goose Creek Candle Company e-mailed me to see if they could send me a couple of candles and host a giveaway I almost wrote back “Thanks, but my house isn’t clean enough for scented candles“. But I didn’t, I thought “What the heck, let’s have dessert first!”

So I received my candles, and I lit them…even though my house was completely not worthy.

Sink full of dirty dishes? It’s okay, light a candle.

Neglected bathroom that smells a lot like dirty diapers? It might still look like trash, but it will smell divine.

Sitting amongst a pile of laundry in your scruffy old pajamas? I’d call that candle time, baby.

Seriously though, these candles smell amazing. I ordered the Vanilla Cashmere and the Autumn scent…I love them both, but I love the Autumn one just a little more. I’m not used to my house smelling so nice! (Or nice at all, really…as long as we’re being honest).  They come in very pretty jars that aren’t covered in labels AND I found this tutorial on how to remove leftover wax…so your can use your jar even after the candle is long gone.

So Goose Creek Candle Company has offered to giveaway TWO candles (yup, two winners!), to enter just use the rafflecopter below. (Your house doesn’t have to be clean to win…but it does have to be in the US.  Sorry, I hate it as much as you do!)

  2. Erica Yergan says:

Also, I don’t think the raflecopter is working :(

  3. I would so love any of their scents because they’re all “edible” kind of scents…my favorite! But I might pick the cider scent pumpkin candle. Yum!

  4. I know what you mean about feeling like your house has to be all together before you break out the candles. Tomorrow when I get home from work I vow to light some scented candles even though the coffee table is cluttered, it’s a Wednesday night and dinner prep won’t even be started yet. Oh, the thought of it just makes me feel like a rebel. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  5. Doris Henson says:

I love candles!! Wish this monitor was a ‘scratch and sniff’…cause I know it would smell heavenly in here right now.

  6. stacy watson says:

  7. Ashley you have such great humor!! :( in Canada. Oh well, I’ll just keep buying mine at Michael’s craft store. I love candles, especially the autumn Pumpkin Spice. Certain scents make me feel good and I burn them all day long, clean or not, who cares right?

  8. Erin Buchanan says:

No doubt about it the Autumn scent! I crave that type of smell……

  9. Linda Southworth says:

  13. I always use candles when the house is a mess (I don’t think there is ever a time when it’s not a mess). I assumed the candle makes the mess smell better.

  15. I light candles hoping it cleans my house.. and the warmer is the first thing I turn on after the coffee

  16. My fiance and I are candle fanatics! We actuially go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx just to stock up on Yankee Candles – it’s such a great price for them (the big ones $7.99 and the small ones $5.99) and light one every day.

Another tip for re-using candle jars. Once the candles burn down to where the wick does not light up anymore, I pop the candle jar in the freezer to harden the wax, then after a few hours, take it out and, with a butter knife, I break the hardened wax into about 3 pieces (by taking the butter knife and pressing it straight into the wax and shimmying it through until I reach the bottom of the jar). And instead of throwing the pieces of wax away, I store them in a ziploc bag and use them as wax warmers! Win/Win :)

  20. Hi Ashley,
Most certainly it’s candle time in Michigan. Thanks for the opportunity to win a Goose Creek candle!

  21. Thanks for the chance! Isn’t it weird but I think something like you the house must be clean etc…I’ll break that rule if I win! Thanks for the chance!

  22. Carla Pennington says:

I have a PetOdor candle burning right now, and believe me, with two dogs and many rescue cats (hoping for a home), my house is a mess and may, just may have an issue with odors…now and again. ‘Nuff said, huh?

Good candles work wonders to create a subtle scent and help to create a bit of serenity in the midst of chaos. Not for everyone, I know, but I often say a special prayer for someone or something when I light mine!

Love your blog, your ideas and honesty are so refreshing. Pun intended!

  23. Therese Haas says:

I think a candle should be lit anytime! I would have to go with a vanilla bead. Would make my husband so happy.

  24. Love you site, you are too funny!

  25. I would love the Dew Drops or White Linen.

  26. I, too, enjoy the laundry picture. :) I remember those days! (I kinda miss them! Sometimes.)

Until I read what you wrote I didn’t even realize I felt the same way about not lighting candles until everything is immaculate. Needless to say, I don’t have candles very often. But why not? I love them, and any time is a good time to let go of old, preconceived, self-judging ideas. Thanks, Ashley!

  27. Toasted Cinnamon!

  28. I like candles and I like that your house doesn’t have to be clean to light a candle. I would like to win a candle. Oh heck, I think I’ll just go buy a candle and use the discount because I never win anything anyway. But if I won, that would be totally awesome too, and I could give it to one of my best friends ever…you know who you are. :)

  29. Love your candid posts and writing style – please don’t change. I’m also very impressed that you and your husband were able to pay off your mortgage in such a short time. Kudos to you all.

Finally, regarding the candles – would love to have a scent of Autumn in my house. I live in North Texas and it finally feels like fall. I can turn off the A/C and open the windows – now I just need to cover up the doggy scents.

  30. Letisha Robinson says:

I would go for the orange clove! It sounds like it would smell divine!

  31. Stephanie says:

I would have a hard time deciding between Spice Cake and the Autumn one. I bet they smell great, thanks for the chance to win!

  32. Christine says:

I’d choose Autumn candle, I’d love to try this!

  33. Does your site have a contact page? I’m having problems locating it but, I’d like to send you an email.
I’ve got some ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great blog and I look forward to seeing it improve over time. recently posted..halowaterkamp.nlMy Profile
