The First Post

The plan is to make this blog about all things domestic. Cooking, cleaning, organization, home decorating….except that I’m not that great at cooking.  And cleaning is something I have no room to give advice on. I’m okay at organization; I like organizing things but have a hard time keeping them that way.  Home decorating…now that I can do. Decorating on a budget is the best kind, the less you have to spend the better. That kind of decorating requires creativity and leads to a home that reflects your personality and individualism. Here is an example from a couple of years ago (when my husband was in the Army and we lived in a crappy old apartment). We needed an entertainment center for our first ever bigger than 19″ TV. So I went thrifting and found this old record player.

The best part is it only cost ten bucks. I ripped the guts out, sanded and painted, recovered the speakers (now storage), and for a total of about $20, we got this…..

The best part (besides only costing twenty bones) is that no one has anything like it

And that’s the gist of this blog.

Of course, I can’t guarantee that this guy isn’t going to get a post every now and then…

  1. Thanks so much! The fact that you made it all the way back to the first post shows your dedication :) The two pics I posted of the stereo are all that I have, so I'm not sure I could make a whole post about it. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have about it though…hit me!

  2. I stumbled on your blog by accident, and have been sitting at my computer for the last 3 hours reading each and every one of your posts. I think I’m in love!! Love your attitude, love your sense of humour, love your style, love your honesty, love everything!! I’m completely new to the ‘blogosphere’…don’t even have one myself…so I’m trying to figure out how I can start with this, your first post, and just proceed through everything up until the present day, in the order that you posted…? I’ll figure it out!! :) Thanks so much for all your sharing!

    1. Only the most dedicated of readers journey back to make a comment on the first post! I’ve found a few blogs where I read them for hours…I’s funny to think that people do that to mine.

    1. Glad you figured it out! There are a few not-so-interesting posts littered throughout the last year and a half…feel free to skip those!

  3. Wow!! seriously..you somehow manage to get craftier each time! :) The idea of having something made by you and your husband that no one else has is amazing! My favorites have been your penny counter top and everything you have done to your kitchen! Absolutely beautiful! :)

    1. Thanks Ninada, you are one of the elite few that has made it all the way back to the first post. Hopefully sometime soon I will have finished kitchen pictures for you…we’re soooo close!

    1. I do still have it but I am trying my hardest to get rid of it…it makes a terrible TV stand because the storage isn’t usable. I’d offer it to you if I hadn’t already promised it to my sister-in-law (my family members houses are started to look a lot like mine, lol). It WOULD make a great bench, I hadn’t thought of that. Now I’m second guessing giving it away…

  4. Thanks for a couple months worth of ‘beauty/creativity fix-es’ as I’ve read back in your blog a little at a time. I think your plate wall originally caught my eye on pinterest, and then your fun personality and style drew me in and have been a gift, as we live in a part of the world that’s a little short on beauty (well, to my western eye…but my artistic daughter calls it ‘shades of dirt’). I think your ‘Christmas House Tour’ was my favorite post…my kids had to come see what I was laughing about. Blessings!

  5. It is 2017 and I made it to the first post! I found your blog through http://www.viewalongtheway.com‘s post about paying off their home in five years. She linked to your post about paying off your house in 3.5 years… which led me to other posts one of which linked back to your first post! (: I’m always curious about first posts because I have been hesitant about starting my own blog. 28 years young and I have no first house to show for. I’ve been researching the process as I approach 30 and casually said to my husband last year that I wanted a house by 30. (Yeah… I did not know what I was thinking! We live in California.) I look forward to rummaging through many of your other posts. (:
